The  Datalogic Heron , a new POS barcode scanner produced , was designed specifically to satisfy all scanning needs pertaining to Point of sale systems in a retail environment.  Its innovative design provides high performance applications that are suitable for even the smallest retail stores POS application.
The design for the Heron scanner, is based primarily on the “INSTINCTIVE READING DISTANCE” concept (reading distance of no more than 20 cm), and also includes the “green  spot” (An application that has been patented by Datalogic Scanning), this technology provides top notch reading feedback from the code. This is typically where the user would be looking.
The standard stand included with the overall package gives the scanner the ability to easily be used in hands-free. When the Datalogic Heron is loaded in the stand correctly the reader will produce a small beep and switch itself into hands-free mode automatically. However, even in hands-free mode the greenspot remains on the scanner to enable the user to easily determine where to position the item in relation to the scanner. This ability makes the Heron™ an effective option regardless of whether you are in the market for a handheld or presentation scanner.
The Heron™ also comes equipped with full connectivity capabilities there are three models of the Heron currently available, each with its own interface settings. The standard model (D130) is available in the standard color as well as black, and is equipped with USB port, RS-232, as well as both Wedge and Wand capabilities. The second model (D110) offers total connectivity options for cash registers and POS terminals designed with IBM technologies. And the third standard model (D140) is capable of performing various undecoded applications for various different readers.
 The newest model (D150 EAS) provides a built in EAS antenna as well as specialized cables designed for complete compatibility and ease of connection to the Nedap as well as Checkpoint EAS POS stations. This newest technology guarantees the deactivation and reading of EAS tags all in one swift motion. The D150 EAS also has the ability to read the new GS1 DataBar symbologies. These Symbologies enable the information on barcodes to be stored and printed on smaller labels, which also means that companies can store a larger amount of information in a more compact space. Enabling companies to track their inventory from start to finish in a more efficient manner.
