An efficient and performance oriented access control system has become a necessity for most of the organizations today. These kinds of systems serve various purposes in an organization. Some of the more important functionalities of the system include:

1) Better security in the workplace with defined level of security for employees in the office area,

2) An eye on employee activities,

3) Minimization of the threat of loss, and

4) Conformity to the security level recommended by the government keeping in mind the vicious attack of 9-11 on American Trade Centre.

RFID technology has been quite instrumental in developing scores of cutting-edge solutions, using advanced technologies. These solutions cater to the various needs of an organization. The access control systems that used to be deployed in the past used to have several remarkable deficiencies. These deficiencies have raised a question mark on the traditional solutions.  An organisation can always rely on performance oriented and cost effective RFID access control solutions.

In most of the cases, barcodes and magnetic stripes give a better result when the user is either in contact with the badge or kept very close to the badge. Moreover, one can read one bar code at a time and the data which is embedded once cannot be updated. These are the limitations with the traditional systems that make the system unmanageable in many cases.

On the other hand, one can read RFID badges from much farther distances comparing any other traditional systems. Moreover, you can overwrite, not once but several times, the information in each badge that embedded electronically. The capability to read from a much farther distance makes RFID system proficient in important tracking facilities. Due to this, a surveillance camera can be activated to supervise an employee sitting in the close vicinity. In addition, you can read multiple badges at the same time in a RFID system.

In a RFID system, employee data, attendance record, duties performed etc can be easily recorded in a database and can be monitored regularly. One can also attach the access information with a Windows Active Directory or a LDAP that can be used for user authentication and thus can be implemented into an authorized access control mechanism for an organization.

RFID solution can be used to address a variety security and access related concerns of an organization. The solutions designed by the company are innovative, and aim at improving the security and employee monitoring. This makes the activity of tracking quite easy and is an efficient task.

Most RFID systems ensure the latest security compliance to an organization that is regulated by the government. The systems improve the loss prevention programs of an organisation. These features will surely have an immediate impact on security and efficiency of an organization and over time, they will significantly reduce or even eliminate losses.

It becomes simple and trouble-free for any company to keep a record of their mass goods if they opt for an appropriate database strategy and GPS and RFID labeling application. It is applicable even for non-movable goods in any given situation and time. This technology is being used by large companies to locate livestock without running behind them.

You can upgrade your business procedures with latest technologies regardless of the types of inventory or the size of your company. But if you implement technologies of the past, you will procure the profits of the past.

Unless the advantages are considered, the initial investment may seem to be a huge amount. One can obtain the advantage of recruiting lesser workers, speeding up work processes, less mistakes, correct and precise inventories, reducing payrolls and improved coverage of meetings with stockholders.

The advantages obtained by any company are based on the kind of business undertaken by them. The example of the latest livestock tagging cited earlier is one such case. But you can also own a business which deals with a flotilla of trucks or delivery vans. What technology should be used then to keep a record of them?

Apart from keeping a record of the vehicles, you can also make sure that they are kept in good condition using the appropriate database. With the help of some recent devices, a mechanic can also link up and obtain any type of information including tire pressure and oil levels.

You must be aware that consistent maintenance of a fleet of vehicles reduces mending charges and gas usage. But it is full-time work to keep pace with all the maintenance accounts of the vehicles, unless the recent technologies are applied.

With time, the cost of GPS and RFID technology has reduced. If it were ordered in large amounts, each tag could be bought at less than 10 cents in 2003. According to a chief manufacturer, the tags are still available at a lower rate in 2009.You may comprehend that it is worthwhile to make the investment when you take into account the price of the items attached to the tags.

Nowadays, GPS and RFID chips have become versatile and can be set up on any building materials including plastics and metals. Records of integrated circuits and other IT usages can be accomplished using this technology with the apt database.

This technology is also applicable for maintaining record of pallets during transportation of goods. Since its per-unit charge is low, the devices are practicable to use for keeping records without increasing the expenses of your consumers.

If the price needs to be increased, you can justify it by informing the customer about its advantages. It is customary to maintain an accurate catalogue of your clients in your database. Then it becomes easier to contact them, when required.

Barcodes are successfully inserted and used in Microsoft Office for scanning purposes by a barcode scanner. To insert a barcode manually, a site administrator configures a barcode policy for the library of a company. When required, the server would automatically generate barcodes for the documents and other such purposes.

The barcode can be inserted by the following method:

1. Open the Library.

2. Select the required document, then click ‘Edit’ and select the desired program like Word, etc.

3. Place your cursor where you want to insert the barcode within the document.

4. Go to the ‘Insert’ tab and select barcode (this option appears only if a barcode policy is in effect for a server document).

5. Click the ‘Microsoft Office’ button, then select ‘Save’.

Besides inserting barcodes through Microsoft Office, barcode fonts are also used. For a new user it is recommended to use self-checking fonts such as Code 39 that have built-in checking codes making use easier.

Once the barcode fonts are installed, simply select the font from the font list and start typing, just the way it is done with the default fonts.  Only one thing is to be remembered which is to include a start and stop character for the typing in barcode font to indicate the beginning and the end to the barcode scanner.
