Environment

It is very important to deploy intrinsically safe (I-safe) equipment in environments which are potentially hazardous because of the existence of flammable gas or any other combustible/ignitable materials.

Intrinsically safe equipment is equipped with wiring that is incapable of releasing enough electrical or thermal energy to result in any type of ignition. If the quantity of power available to the equipment in a hazardous environment is limited, it prevents the ignition of gas, thus protecting the devices from producing sparks or a considerable quantity of heat.

There are several industries where usage of intrinsically safe devices would be beneficial, including oil, gas and chemical, which would require intrinsically safe devices for data collection, shipping and receiving as well as works in progress.

Only devices labeled with the specific ‘IS’ rating required for the concerned equipment can be considered I-safe, ‘IS’ is a reputed testing laboratory that carries out the tests and provides certification specifying the environments each device is deemed safe to be used in.
